Dear Don Ross Families: Both New & Returning,

It’s officially the Labour Day Long Weekend so that means the First Day of School is just around the corner!

Welcome and Welcome Back to Middle School at Don Ross, we just can’t wait to see everyone on Tuesday.  We are both excited and honoured at Don Ross to teach and learn on the traditional territory of the Skwxwú7mesh NationOur collective school goal continues to be finding new ways to improve connectedness for all our students as we’ve learned through both research and experience that it is key to the health and well-being of our youth.  We look forward to working with students and families to make this year our best one yet!

Staying organized and building regular study habits is so important to build at this age.  While the exceptional staff here at Don Ross will support students through this development we ask that you please discuss the following at home:

· Have regular conversations about what your children are learning and doing in their classes

· Set a regular study space and time: homework, reading, reviewing or preparing for upcoming projects

· Find ways to unplug and spend time together: outside, being active or connecting to our local community

Life can be busy but our teachers are just an email or phone call away so please touch base regularly with your child’s teachers so we can work together to support our kids.  The classroom teacher is your first contact regarding achievement or behavior and Stan Thomson, our school counselor, can assist with personal or academic concerns.

All students will arrive in the gym on the first day to find their homeroom, followed by meeting their homeroom teacher and then receiving their timetable and plan for the rest of the day & week.  You can find this letter and the attached weekly newsletter along with other relevant information on our website at and if you change your email address or any other contact info please inform our main office as soon as possible so that we always have your up to date emergency contact information.

The new BC curriculum for K-9 continues to be in full effect so the entire staff continue to plan new ways for our students to Create, Collaborate, Think Critically and Contribute while improving student Connectedness for all.  Please feel free to view the new BC curriculum at

If you have any other concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to contact our Clerical Team: Mel or Sally or our Admin Team: Karen, Sara or Robin.  We may be busy but we will always get back to you as quickly as we possibly can.  I am so thrilled about the upcoming year and I look forward to working together with you, our staff, our students and our community. It’s going to be our best year yet!
