Orange Shirt Day is this Wednesday, September 30th – we would like to encourage staff and students to wear orange on this day.
A legacy of the St. Joseph Mission residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad’s story of having her new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission. Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for us to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annual.
At DRM, classrooms will be engaged in activities relating to Orange Shirt Day. We will also be holding a digital assembly to mark the day and to honour and remember those who were impacted by the residential school system. Thanks you to Anthony Joseph and Ms. Wick for supporting us with this.
Sincerely,
Cory Hartling
