Dear Eagle Families,
As you may be aware a VCH letter was emailed out on Friday notifying the Grade 9 community of an exposure to Pertussis. This impacts the Grade 9 cohort and adults working with the Grade 9s. Tetanus-Diphtheria-Acellular Pertussis (Tdap) is one of the routine scheduled Grade 9 vaccines and was offered to every Grade 9 student during the immunization campaign held at the school on January 15th. All immunized children would have received a green paper reporting which vaccines they were given based on consent obtained from the guardians. A second visit is planned for February 26th where all remaining Grade 9 students will be offered the opportunity to obtain their vaccines.
Children normally have pertussis containing vaccines at 2, 4, 6 and 18 months of age, 4-6 years old and in Grade 9 as per the provincial immunization schedule. If your child is due for vaccines, please book into the Squamish Public Health JaneApp - Squamish. If you have questions about your child’s immunization status, please call the Squamish Health Unit at 604-892-2293 and ask to speak with a nurse. For students in Grades 7 & 8, VCH Public Health nurses will be offering vaccines when your child is in Grade 9. For adults in the school please follow directions on the letter if you were exposed and are symptomatic.
